Newlyn Pier & Harbour Commissioners’ Update – December 2022

Newlyn Pier & Harbour Commissioners’ Update – December 2022

Following the monthly Board Meeting of Newlyn Pier & Harbour Commissioners (NP&HC), the Commissioners would like to take this opportunity to express their grateful thanks to all stakeholders for their support during the year.

Plans to establish the Newlyn Marine Skills & Resource Centre as part of the UK Government’s Town Deals Fund continue to gather pace and NP&HC look forward to receiving WSP Limited’s report on viable options for the development of Sandy Cove during the first quarter of 2023.

Alan Hartwell has been appointed to the vacant role of Deputy Harbour Master and will join fellow Deputy Harbour Master, Jedna Hall, as part of the Newlyn Harbour management team, in February 2023.

“We are pleased to announce the appointment of Alan Hartwell, who has ably undertaken a similar role with the Duchy of Cornwall at St Mary’s on the Isles of Scilly and wish his predecessor, Roger Nowell, a safe and prosperous return to sea,” comments NP&HC Chairman, Rob Wing.

“We will continue to keep everyone updated as our regeneration projects progress and wish our hardworking fisherfolk, staff, friends and their families a peaceful Christmas and New Year.”

During the Christmas and New Year period, the Harbour Office will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, Tuesday 27th December, New Year’s Day and Monday 2nd January. However, 24/7 cover will be maintained with a duty ‘phone carrier accessible through the main number and routine patrols will continue on-site.
